PSG Overcomes Marseille on Penalties to Claim Trophee des Champions Super Cup in the Middle East.

Trophy celebration scene

The Parisian club has now secured the prestigious trophy on fourteen different occasions.

The Parisian giants needed a dramatic equaliser followed by a successful penalty shootout to overcome Marseille in Kuwait and secure a record-extending fourth consecutive Trophee des Champions title.

The European champions seemed to be coasting towards a comfortable triumph in the match between the Ligue 1 winners and the Coupe de France winners after Ousmane Dembele found the scoring in the opening stages.

Yet, Marseille struck twice in the closing moments to seize a shock advantage. Initially, the English forward converted from the penalty spot, before the defender unfortunately turned the ball into his own net for an own-goal.

In a breathtaking twist of events, Goncalo Ramos snatched a crucial equaliser in the dying seconds to force the contest into a penalty shootout. The Parisian shot-stopper Lucas Chevalier then emerged as the hero, stopping crucial kicks from O'Riley and Traore.

In the shootout, Ramos, the midfielder, Nuno Mendes, and the young talent all converted successfully for Paris Saint-Germain to seal a 4-1 penalty victory.

The record winners Paris Saint-Germain, who met last season's Ligue 1 second-placed team Olympique de Marseille after completing a league and cup double, have now won this trophy for the twelfth time in the past 13 seasons.
